Earth To Eve by Karli Evans

Earth To Eve

The ability to articulate complicated feelings into words is a gift Eve was born with. Growing up, she wanted to be a novelist, creating new realities through sci-fi stories and letting her mind drift away from her home. With a vivid imagination and love for music, songwriting felt like a natural next step for Eve. “I was in musical theater growing up as well, and I always loved performing and being a part of worlds and stories,” she says. “It all comes down to the story. I have always wanted to write stories, be part of them, and help build them. And then at some point, it really became about music.”

Music became a way for Eve to not only channel her inner thoughts but transmute her feelings of depression. “It was an outlet to try and make sense of my emotions and my feelings. It was my secret sanctuary space.” She would play music all night, calling it her “therapy before I could go to therapy.” Her playlist was a who’s who of stadium rock, with artists from ELO to Queen reflecting her penchant for theatrical flair. She would spin her older sister’s vinyl, listening to the Velvet Underground and memorizing the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. “That’s when I got interested in the production aspect of music, listening to all the instruments come to life on vinyl, lying on the ground, and hearing it. A lot of my production inspiration comes from those huge cinematic worlds.”

Oversharing on the Internet is a journey into those worlds — a combination of sound and lyricism shaped by Eve’s love of musical theater and modern pop. The album also sees Eve confronting the current state of political affairs, yet despite the heavy subject matter Eve hopes her debut will inspire listeners to examine their lives in hopes of making them better. “I want people to sit with themselves and reflect on their past and their present and figure out if they’re living their life to the fullest,” she says, sharing a list of questions she hopes her album poses: “Are you honoring your inner child? Are you being kind to other people? Are you honoring the collective and those around you in your communities? Are you tapped into the news and what’s happening, and are you sharing resources with others? Are you angry? Are you sad? What are you feeling?”
