FACTORY

FACTORY is a genre-defying collective reimagining the role women play in the industry by building community and pushing boundaries with artistic innovation. Founded by long-time friends and artists: Halima, Murielle, Von, and Sophie Hintze in 2022, FACTORY is coming in hot as the first entirely self produced, written, engineered and performed group of its kind.

Meeting at NYU Tisch’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, FACTORY initially started off as a weekly workshop to become each other’s creative partners – offering feedback on music, refining mixes, brainstorming media strategies and directing each other’s visual projects. An organic moment at one of their sessions together led to the making of their bass-heavy debut single “BLOODLINE” and they decided to use their collective voices to continue as a group – each bringing undeniable talent and ideas to the table. FACTORY is where individuality meets collective power, forming an unstoppable force in today’s musical landscape. Details on each member below:

Halima brings a deeply introspective and globally influenced perspective to FACTORY. Raised between New Jersey, Lagos, and London, her sound is an eclectic blend of neo-soul, pop-punk, and jazz, reflecting her diverse cultural experiences. By the age of 21, Halima launched her label, One Percent Genius, and her self-produced singles have since garnered over 10 million streams, gaining recognition from outlets like Pitchfork, BBC Radio 1, Pigeons & Planes and The FADER. She marked her indie label debut this summer with EXU, her first EP on the burgeoning Secretly affiliate drink sum wtr. In addition to her solo work, Halima is a committed collaborator, composing scores for films. Halima’s multifaceted artistry and dedication to self-discovery and collaboration make her a core pillar of FACTORY’s collective identity.

Murielle, a Belgium-born, Congolese-American singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer, rounds out the collective with her distinct fusion of cultural and musical influences. Rooted in her multicultural background, she fuses the sounds of Congolese Ndombolo, Gospel, and Opera with contemporary Hip-Hop, Pop, and R&B to create a unique sonic identity through vocal production, ambient electronics, and rhythmic experimentation. Singing in English, French, and Lingala, she has garnered over a million likes on TikTok and seen her music featured on major shows like ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and Freeform’s The Watchful Eye. Her influence extends beyond music into visual storytelling, with her company Quartier Douze serving as a platform for innovative multimedia projects and empowering marginalized voices. Murielle’s ability to blend personal storytelling with bold production techniques adds depth and richness to FACTORY’s collective output.

Sophie Hintze, a New York-born, Los Angeles-based artist, songwriter, and vocal producer, brings an extraordinary level of technical expertise and industry success to FACTORY. Signed at just 16 by Dina LaPolt, Sophie quickly secured a co-publishing deal with BMG before attending NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. Her prolific career has seen her writing credits top US and international charts, including multiple Billboard #1s, over 220 million Spotify streams, and Gold and Platinum certifications worldwide. Sophie has written for global acts like aespa, ENHYPEN, and Twin Shadow, while also contributing to major film and TV soundtracks. Her expertise as both a songwriter and vocal producer anchors FACTORY’s sound, infusing the collective with her sharp ear for melody, lyrics, and production.

Von (she/her), a multi-faceted queer disruptor, brings a fearless, avant-garde spirit to FACTORY, challenging conventions and embracing radical self-expression. Inspired by the political agendas of Peaches to Pussy Riot, Von’s work dissects catholic guilt, sexist stereotypes and queer performance studies. Von spearheads Von’s BLOODY MARY, the first party series to merge talents from sex workers with queer performance art, blood play and exhibition style boxing. Von’s BLOODY MARY has included artists like Pussy Riot, UNIIQU3, DOSS, Virgen Maria and DeathbyRomy. Von music directed the first NYFW show to feature Pornhub stars on the runway, DJ’d Art Basel for Pussy Riot and Judy Chicago’s collaborative project launch and is currently a professor at NYU. Her ability to blend provocative art forms with cutting-edge technology makes Von essential in FACTORY’s push to innovate and expand artistic boundaries.
